Police arrest man after crash at Beverley, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a crash at Beverley this afternoon.

Just after 2pm, Friday 26 November, patrols were called to Port Road, after a stump grinder fell from a trailer being towed by a stolen Mitsubishi utility and crashed into a traffic light pole at the intersection of Kilkenny Road. The driver continued for a short distance before pulling into the car park of a business. He then allegedly stole an unattended Hino truck that was parked nearby but was only able to travel a few metres before bystanders grabbed him and pulled him from the truck.

Further enquiries revealed the Mitsubishi utility had been stolen from an address at Colonial Light Gardens around 12.30pm today. A short time later, the utility was involved in a hit-run crash on Goodwood Road where it crashed into a letterbox and a small front wall of a property near Piccadilly Circus.

The 45-year-old from Croydon Park was arrested and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to be medically assessed. He is expected to be charged with driving under the influence, drive disqualified and illegal use and may face further charges as police continue to investigate both crashes.

He is expected to be refused bail.
