Police arrest man after crash at Hackney, South Australia

A man is in custody for numerous offences following a two car crash at Hackney last night.

Just before 11pm on Friday 17 August, two cars collided at the intersection of Hackney Road and North Terrace outside the Wine Centre.

A man who was driving a one of the cars, a red Mazda sedan with NSW registration, left the scene and headed towards Rundle Road.

A member of the public followed him and called police providing details as the man headed into the city. When he reached the intersection of Frome Road and Rundle Street, he was apprehended by a patrol.

It turns out the 47-year-old man from Taperoo was wanted for driving offences earlier in the day at Surrey Downs, where he mounted kerb to get away from a patrol. Plus on further enquiries the arrested man he had allegedly committed to two petrol thefts in the Mazda sedan which was also reported stolen from a NSW hire company.

The Taperoo man has been refused police bail and will appear in court on Monday on three charges of theft, aggravated due care, and numerous other driving offences.
