Police arrest man after fatal assault in Erskineville

A man has been arrested following the death of another man in Sydney’s Inner West yesterday.

About 8.50pm (Sunday 13 September 2020), emergency services were called to the front of a unit block on Swanson Street, Erskineville, after reports two men were involved in a physical altercation, before one man fled the scene.

Police arrived to find a 57-year-old man suffering severe head and facial injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died a short time later.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command, with assistance from Inner West Police Area Command, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 28-year-old man was arrested at a nearby unit block on Swanson Street about 12.45am (Monday 14 September 2020) and taken to Mascot Police Station.
