Police arrest man after incident on trains

Perth Detectives have charged a 31-year-old man after several incidents on-board trains bound for the city yesterday, 5 August 2020.

It is alleged around 7am, the man boarded a train on the Armadale line bound for the city when he became erratic, shouted abuse and banged on windows before removing a 30cm knife from a bag, he began waving the knife around and yelling at passengers, before placing the knife in the waistband of his clothing.

A woman in her 50s sitting in a corner seat and unable to move away from the man was allegedly indecently assaulted. The man allegedly took the knife from his waistband and waved it at other passengers threatening to kill them before going back to the woman and indecently assaulting her again.

The man exited the train at the Victoria Park train station where he brandished the knife on the platform, abused a security guard and other members of the public waiting on the platform.

The man got back on a train heading to Perth and whilst on-board it is alleged he continued to be aggressive, abusive and brandished the knife at passengers.

He exited the train at the McIver train station, waited on the platform, then boarded the next train to Perth. He was arrested at the Perth train station by waiting police and PTA officers.

The 31-year-old man from White Gum Valley has been charged with:

• Three counts of Being Armed in Public to Cause Fear;

• Two counts of Aggravated Indecent Assault; and

• One count of Threats to Kill.
