Police arrest man after Melbourne CBD stabbing

A man has been arrested after a stabbing that left another man with serious injuries in Melbourne’s CBD last night.

Investigators have been told a man entered a convenience store at the corner of Franklin and Elizabeth streets around 11.30pm.

The shop attendant confronted the man after he allegedly attempted to steal an item, and a scuffle broke out between the pair.

The offender allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the shop attendant, who was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police searched the area and located the man, who was arrested at an address on Elizabeth Street around 3.30am.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.
