Police arrest man after pursuit and armed robbery in Melbourne’s Southeast

Dandenong Divisional Response Unit officers have arrested a 22-year-old Dandenong man following a pursuit and armed robbery in Melbourne’s southeast on Wednesday.

Police have been told a silver Mercedes Benz sedan was travelling along Springvale Road when it was allegedly forced off the road by a grey Holden Captiva wagon in Springvale just before midnight.

It is believed the driver of the allegedly stolen Captiva was armed with a knife when he approached the other driver and stole his mobile phone and wallet.

The victim was not injured.

The offender then drove away, and police attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle in Griffiths Court, Mount Waverley a short time later.

The driver failed to pull over and a pursuit was initiated through Clayton, Dandenong and Noble Park areas.

The driver dumped the vehicle in Chandler Road, Noble Park and officers arrested the 22-year-old a short distance away.

He has been charged with armed robbery, threats to kill, theft of motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life and numerous other offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 22 July.

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage.
