Police Arrest Man After Serious Assault In CBD

Quick work by police, with assistance from the safe city camera’s, has led to the arrest of an offender for a serious assault in the CBD this morning.

Police have been told two men were seen involved in a heated argument at the intersection of Bourke and Elizabeth streets about 1.15am.

The argument escalated to a physical assault where the victim was knocked to the ground and further assaulted.

Officers responded quickly and provided assistance to the victim and tracked the movements of the other man believed involved.

Utilising the safe city cameras police located a 35-year-old man on Elizabeth Street, near Flinders Street Station, and took him into custody.

He will be interviewed in relation to the incident and is expected to be charged with serious assault related offences.

The injured man, aged 29-years, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Both men, who are of no fixed address, are believed to know one another.
