Police arrest man after stolen excavator located at Willunga, South Australia

Police have arrested a man after he was found with a stolen excavator at Willunga overnight.

Just after 1am, Friday 14 October, patrols spotted an Isuzu truck parked on the side of Brookman Road with two occupants and an excavator on the flat bed. Police spoke to the occupants and on checking the truck, discovered the front and rear number plates did not match. The rear number plate was also bent over to conceal the final letter.

Further checks revealed the truck was also unregistered and uninsured and the excavator had been stolen from a Willaston address back in November last year.

The driver, a 38-year-old from Willaston, was arrested and charged with unprescribed number plates, unregistered, uninsured and four counts of unlawful possession after a search of the truck uncovered several number plates believed to have been stolen. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court later today.

His passenger did not commit any offences and the excavator has been seized. Investigations are continuing.
