Police arrest man after Tootgarook attempted armed robbery and shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives yesterday arrested a man following two firearms incidents that are alleged to have occurred in Tootgarook.

The 27-year-old Blairgowrie man was arrested in Rosebud and was taken to hospital after he attempted to run from police and ran in front of a police vehicle and was struck.

He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remains under police guard.

The arrest comes after the first incident that occurred on Kareela Drive on Tuesday 26 October.

The victim was confronted by the Blairgowrie man who allegedly demanded the victim hand over keys to his vehicle.

When the victim refused and ran back inside his property, the man allegedly fired a shot towards the victim.

The shot penetrated glass at the front of the home which struck the victim and he was treated for minor injuries.

It is believed the same man is responsible for a firearms incident that is alleged to have occurred on Summerhill Road in Tootgarook on the evening of Friday 12 November.

On that occasion police alleged the man fired a shot into a moving vehicle.

No one was physically injured during the incident and police believe both parties were known to each other.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
