Police arrest man at Dry Creek, South Australia

Police have arrested a man after a violent incident at Dry Creek last night.

About 8.15pm on Friday 19 June, police were called to Salisbury Highway after a woman called Triple Zero reporting she was being chased by a man known to her.

The woman reported to attending officers that she had been sexually assaulted by the man, held her against her will and placed in the boot of his Ford laser.

The victim was able to escape from the boot but was chased around nearby wetlands.

The man was allegedly armed with a firearm and it has been reported that several shots were fired during the incident.

The victim was able to run to safety and alerted police. She was treated at hospital before being released shortly after.

Police surrounded the wetlands area adjacent to Salisbury Highway and with the assistance of PolAir and STAR group officers, located the suspect hiding in bushes.

A 37-year-old man from Craigmore has been charged with unlawful detention and rape. He has been refused bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday 22 June.

Police have returned to the scene this morning to search the area for the firearm.

Specifically investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the red Ford Laser SA registration S081-AXM in the area of Port River Expressway and Salisbury Highway.
