Police Arrest Man At Monteith

Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives have arrested a man following the seizure of a large sum of cash in the Murraylands.

About 4pm on Friday 19 June, detectives attached to Operation Eclipse stopped a Victorian‑registered Toyota sedan travelling east on the Princes Highway at Monteith.

The vehicle was searched and police located a shopping bag in the boot containing $447,750 in cash. The cash is suspected to be the proceeds of illicit tobacco sales in South Australia.

A 40‑year‑old man from Craigburn, Victoria, was arrested and taken to Murray Bridge Police Station where he was charged with money laundering.

He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Investigations in relation to Operation Eclipse are continuing.
