Police arrest man following incident at Taperoo, South Australia

A man has been arrested following an incident at Taperoo this morning.

Police will allege that about 3.50am today (Thursday 7 February), patrols were called to a block of units in Ormiston Court after reports that a man had barricaded himself inside a unit after he assaulted a man who was not known to him. The victim then fled the unit and was not seriously injured.

No one else remained inside the unit with the suspect.

Police negotiators and STAR Group officers were called to the scene. STAR Group gained entry to the premises and used capsicum spray to detain the man just after 9.20am.

A hammer was seized by police at the scene.

A 33-year-old Brompton man was charged with being unlawfully on premises, assault and carry offensive weapon. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
