Police arrest man in Moonee Ponds after evading police

Police have arrested an erratic driver after he allegedly evaded police in Melbourne’s north this morning.

Officer were initially called following reports a driver in Kia hatch back was hooning on North Street in Ascot Vale about 1.20am on 28 August.

Police responded and observed the car allegedly swerving across lanes on Mount Alexander Road in Moonee Ponds.

Officers attempted to intercept the car, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and evaded police.

The driver allegedly swerved onto the wrong side of the road before turning into a nearby side street.

Shortly after, another unit located a 23-year-old man walking from the car which was parked nearby on Hoddle Street.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard.
