Police arrest man in stolen ute at Moonta, South Australia

A man was arrested after trying to flee from Kadina Police in a stolen vehicle this afternoon.

Just after 4pm on Saturday 19 December, police were notified that an unknown Toyota Hilux had driven twice through a private property at Moonta Mines.

Police checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Broken Hill, NSW.

A short time later, Kadina Police spotted the stolen ute, hidden in bushes near Moonta. The vehicle took off at speed and was pursued through the township of Moonta.

The ute again drove through private property, damaging fences before becoming stuck.

The driver, a 32-year-old Broken Hill man, was arrested.

He was charged with drive dangerously to escape police pursuit, illegal use, speed dangerous, unlawful possession, theft and drive unlicensed. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Monday, 21 December.
