Police Arrest Man Over Shooting At Hillston

A man has been arrested over the alleged shooting of another man in the states south.

About 11.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 August 2026), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District responded to reports that a 48-year-old man had presented to Hillston Multipurpose Service with a gun shot wound to the right leg. The injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Officers were informed that the man had been shot in the backyard of a home on Burns Street where he then walked to the hospital.

Following inquiries a 36-year-old man was allegedly arrested in a parked vehicle on Shelly Street.

It will be further alleged that a rifle was seized from within the vehicle.

The man has been taken to Hillston Police Station.

Crime scenes have been established at both the home in Burns Street and the parked vehicle in Shelly Street.
