Police arrest men after incident in Banksia Grove

Joondalup Detectives have charged two men after an incident in Banksia Grove yesterday, 25 December 2021.

It is alleged between 5am and 6am, the men drove to a construction company located on Beautiful and Leopard Roads in a stolen Mitsubishi flatbed truck with a Hiab crane attached, and forced entry through the boundary fences.

It is further alleged they stole building materials including high voltage copper wire reels valued at approximately $240,000. The men fled the scene after being disturbed by security who had called police.

In an attempt to avoid the police, they drove the truck along Perry Road in Pinjar where the truck crashed into trees, ejecting both of them. A 41-year-old man suffered a broken femur resulting in police locating him by the truck. He was conveyed to hospital for medical treatment.

A 41-year-old man from Ellenbrook has been charged with:

• Steal Motor Vehicle;

• Stealing;

• Trespass;

• Criminal Damage or Destruction of Property; and

• Breach of Bail Undertaking.

A 40-year-old man from Banksia Grove has been charged with:

• Trespass;

• Criminal Damage or Destruction of Property;

• Stealing

• Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Dangerously;

• Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (circumstance of aggravation)

• Dangerous Driving Causing Grievous Bodily Harm – in circumstance of aggravation;

• Driver Failed to Stop and Ensure Assistance Received after Incident Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm;

• Driver Fail to Report an Incident Occasioning Death or Grievous Bodily Harm; and

• Fail to Obey Order Given by an Officer.

They are both due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow, 27 December 2021.
