Police arrest two after south-east suburbs evade

Detectives have arrested two men in Cranbourne after a grey Hyundai station wagon was seen driving erratically across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs today.

Police were initially alerted to the Hyundai in the Cheltenham area about 9.45am today.

The Air Wing assisted ground units in tracking the vehicle, which at times travelled on the wrong side of the road and at speeds estimated to be in excess of 150km/hr, to the Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre carpark.

The stolen Hyundai was recovered with its two occupants fleeing in a silver Mazda.

The Mazda was tracked to the corner of Monahans Road and Sarno Court.

A search of a nearby building found two men hiding in the roof space.

A search of the Hyundai allegedly found a machete.

The two men are assisting police with their enquiries.

It is alleged the Hyundai was stolen from Gilford Grove in Cheltenham about 10.50pm on Saturday, 2 April.

Detectives are investigating whether the vehicle was involved in other offending across Melbourne’s east and south-eastern suburbs.

Anyone who saw the Hyundai, or who has dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link.
