Police have arrested two people after a stolen vehicle crashed at Direk.
Just before 6pm on Tuesday 1 September, a stolen BMW SUV was spotted by patrols travelling on Diment Road, Direk. The driver accelerated away from police and out of sight. The vehicle was not pursued.
The BMW was subsequently involved in a collision with a Mazda ute at the intersection of Edinburgh Road and Helps Road before crashing into a fence. Witnesses reported seeing two occupants get out of the vehicle and run from the scene.
There were no reports of injuries as a result of the crash.
Police quickly attended and searched nearby streets, locating a 26-year-old West Hindmarsh man and a 25-year-old Elizabeth woman allegedly attempting to leave the area in a rideshare vehicle.
The pair were arrested and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle.
The woman was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 26 October. The man was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday 2 September.
The BMW, stolen earlier on Tuesday morning from an Elizabeth Downs address, was seized for forensic examination.
