Police arrest two after stolen Mercedes stopped by police in Cumberland

Two men have been arrested after a car, stolen from Glenorie was detected and stopped by police from Cumberland Police Area Command earlier today.

Shortly before 11.30am (Saturday 16 February 2019) police were alerted to the theft of a Mercedes E55 that had been advertised for private sale at a home in Glenorie.

Police have been told that two men attended the home in a Toyota Corolla. One of the men took the Mercedes for a test drive but failed to return the vehicle. The other man followed the Mercedes in the Toyota Corolla.

Police were alerted to the alleged theft with POLAIR and local police commencing a search of the area for the vehicle.

A short time later the Mercedes was observed heading towards Merrylands.

The Toyota was stopped by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command, leaving the Mercedes to drive ahead. Police will allege this vehicle was driving with stolen number plates.

A short time later the Mercedes stopped in Paton Street, Merrylands West, where officers from Cumberland Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command closed in and arrested the driver.

The 32-year-old Merrylands man and the 30-year-old man driving the Toyota were conveyed to Granville Police Station.
