Police arrest two following firearms incident in St Kilda

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested two people this afternoon as part of an investigation into a firearms incident in St Kilda early this morning.

Investigators have been told a number of shots were fired into a car on Grosvenor Street about 1am and a gold coloured Toyota Camry was seen fleeing the area.

About 3pm this afternoon, a motorbike was allegedly stolen from a car park at a Malvern East shopping centre.

The stolen bike was soon located by police along with a gold Toyota Camry at a Kavanagh Street address in Cheltenham.

A 39-year-old man and a 26-year old woman, both from Cheltenham, were arrested at the scene.

A third vehicle, being a white van, was also seized from the address along with a firearm.

Detectives from the Hobson’s Bay Crime Investigation Unit and now liaising with their Port Phillip counterparts as they believe the van may be linked to a second incident in Brooklyn.

On that occasion a number of shots were fired into a garage of a Corrigan Street address about 10.30am this morning.

The man and woman both remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries and police remain at the Cheltenham address executing a search warrant.
