Police arrest two in NSW after Kensington shooting

Two men have been arrested in New South Wales following a fatal shooting in Kensington last week.

A 27-year-old Brunswick man and a 25-year-old Pascoe Vale man were arrested by NSW Police in Bankstown about 9.45 pm last night (8 March).

The men will now be interviewed by detectives from the Echo Taskforce and it is anticipated they will appear before court in NSW for an extradition application.

Police released images of the men on 3 March as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Echo Taskforce has officially taken over the investigation into the incident, which occurred during a boxing event at a Racecourse Road venue about 10pm on Friday, 1 March.

Emergency services were called to the venue following reports of shots being fired.

A 30-year-old Craigieburn man died at the scene after being shot, while a 34-year-old from Lalor and 32-year-old from Craigieburn, were both taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack and believe that the parties involved were known to each other.

Investigators are continuing to appeal for anyone who was at the venue on the night and witnessed the shooting to come forward.

It’s believed there were about 1000 people in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

Detectives believe a number of people who may have witnessed the shooting are yet to come forward and speak to police, and are hoping they will now do so following today’s arrests.

Police are also asking anyone with CCTV or dash cam vision of the incident to provide that footage to investigators.
