Police arrest two men after series of burglaries

Two men wanted in relation to a series of commercial burglaries across Melbourne have been arrested after ramming two police cars in Carlton this afternoon.

Officers arrested the pair, who were in a white Mitsubishi ute on the corner of Nicholson and Elgin streets, shortly after midday.

At the time of their arrest the men allegedly rammed two police cars in an attempt to get away.

The men, a 30-year-old man from Northcote and a 56-year-old man from Carlton, are assisting police with their enquiries.

The arrest follows an investigation into a series of commercial burglaries at; a luxury goods store in Melbourne CBD on 26 May and five incidents earlier today including at a luxury goods store in Southbank, a tool store in Thomastown, a pharmacy in Ivanhoe, a sports store in Kew and a fast-food restaurant in Prahran.

It is expected the men will be charged with offences including burglary, theft, theft of motor vehicle, criminal damage, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police and intentionally expose emergency worker to risk by driving.
