Police arrest two men after threats to Premier

Detectives from the State Security Investigation Group have charged two men in relation to separate incidents involving threats against the Premier and his family.

Incident One

About 12.05pm on Tuesday 8 February 2022, a suspicious package was located at the Premier’s Electoral Office in Rockingham.

It is alleged a threatening letter towards the Premier was located inside the package along with a white powdery substance. Further testing of the substance determined it was not a hazardous substance.

On Wednesday 16 March 2022, a 58-yer-old man from Melville was charged with:-

• Statement or Act Creating False Apprehension as to Existence of Threat or Danger.

He has been bailed to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court on Thursday, 7 April 2022.

Incident Two

It is alleged during the evening of Monday 28 February 2022, a man made threats to the safety of the Premier and his wife both online and via telephone.

On 15 March 2022, Detectives from the State Security Investigation Group executed a search warrant at the man’s home where several items were seized.

The 52-year-old man from Mahomets Flats has been charged with:-

• Made a Threat to Unlawfully do an Act;

• Possess a Prohibited Drug; and

• Possessed any Drug Paraphernalia in or on which there was a Prohibited Drug or Plant.

He has been bailed to appear before the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday, 24 March 2022.
