Police charge driver after West Perth crash

Traffic Enforcement Group North officers have charged a 26-year-old man after a traffic crash in West Perth in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 29 May 2022.

About 1.20am a white VW Golf sedan and a white Toyota Prius station sedan collided at the intersection of Charles Street and Carr Street.

The force of the crash sent the VW Golf along the street before it mounted a kerb and struck a number of rubbish bins before hitting a street lamp. The street lamp fell across one lane of Charles Street.

The Toyota Prius struck a gas junction box outside a unit complex, rupturing gas pipes.

The Toyota Prius is a ride-share vehicle and had six passengers. The driver and passengers received minor injuries.

It is alleged the driver of the VW Golf, a 26-year-old man fled the scene. He was apprehended by occupants of the ride-share on Newcastle Street as police arrived.

The 26-year-old man from Westminster will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date on the charges of:-

• Excess 0.08%;

• Driver Contravene Red Traffic Control Signal; and

• Driver Fails to Stop after Traffic Incident where Property Damage has Occurred.
