Five men have been charged after allegedly assaulting police and resisting arrest during a COVID compliance check in Sydney’s west yesterday.
About 4.10pm (Saturday 31 July 2021), police attended a home on Unicombe Crescent, Oakhurst, following reports of a party.
Upon arrival, officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command observed a group of males drinking inside a garage and asked them to produce identification, which they allegedly refused to do.
After informing the men of the possible COVID breach, the occupant – a man aged 44 – allegedly pushed an officer in the chest.
While trying to arrest him, four male visitors allegedly became violent and attempted to hinder police, with officers deploying OC spray.
All five men were eventually arrested and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.
The 44-year-old was charged with two counts of intimidate police officer in execution of duty, assault police officer, resist officer, and not comply with Noticed Direction COVID-19.
A 32-year-old man from Mt Druitt was charged with assault police officer, resist/ hinder officer, and not comply with Noticed Direction COVID-19.
A 33-year-old man from Leonay, and a 38-year-old man from Rooty Hill, were charged with resist officer, resist/ hinder officer, and not comply with Noticed Direction COVID-19.
A 30-year-old man from Hassell Grove was charged with resist/ hinder officer and not comply with Noticed Direction COVID-19.
The 33-year-old was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 1 August 2021).
The men aged 30 and 44 were granted conditional bail and are due to appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 11 August 2021.
The men aged 32 and 38 were also granted conditional bail, to appear in Mr Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 18 August 2021.
The officers sustained minor injuries.
