Police charge man after Altona aggravated burglary

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after he allegedly rammed several police cars in Altona on Friday morning.

The man had earlier allegedly committed an aggravated burglary at a home on McBain Street just after 2.30am.

The offender was allegedly attempting to flee the scene in the victim’s SUV, but was seen by police officers reversing from the driveway.

Officers boxed in the allegedly stolen SUV which then crashed into the police van, along with the victims’ two other parked vehicles and a fence.

The 34-year-old Reservoir man has been charged with 29 offences, including aggravated burglary, aggravated reckless exposing an emergency services worker to harm, burglary, criminal damage and bail offences.

The man has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 30 July.
