Police charge man after armed robbery at tobacco store in Melbourne

Detectives from the Melbourne Embona Taskforce have charged a man following an alleged armed robbery at a tobacco store in Melbourne.

It will be alleged a man armed with a knife, entered the property on Queen Street about 7pm on Saturday 26 February.

Once inside, the man allegedly confronted a staff member, where a struggle ensued as he made demands for cash and cigarettes before leaving the scene.

The female staff member received multiple stab wounds and was conveyed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested a 36-year-old Carlton man in Melbourne today without incident.

The man has since been charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated burglary, intentionally and recklessly cause serious injury, assault with intention to rob and other offences.

The man is expected to front the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening.
