Police charge man after armed robbery – Figtree

A man will face court today charged over the alleged armed robbery of a Wollongong business overnight.

Just after 6.00pm (Saturday 11 June 2023), officers from Wollongong Police District were called to a licensed premises on the Princes Highway at Figtree, following reports of an armed robbery.

Police were told a man allegedly threatened staff and demanded money, before leaving the premises with a sum of cash.

The man was last seen walking in southerly direction on the Princes Highway.

Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

A short time later, police located a man hiding in bushes on O’Donnell Drive, Figtree

During a search man was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of cash – which police will allege was proceeds of the robbery – and a gold-coloured torch lighter in the man’s backpack.

The 29-year-old man arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Sunday 12 June 2023.
