Police charge man after assault in Essendon

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after a woman was allegedly assaulted in Essendon this morning.

Investigators have been told a man entered a back yard of a property on Pascoe Vale Road around 6am.

He left the property after being confronted by a male occupant.

A 57-year-old woman from the same residence returned home a short time later.

It’s believed a verbal altercation occurred between the man and woman before he allegedly grabbed the woman and threatened to sexually assault her.

Passers-by witnessed the scuffle and contacted police, who attended and arrested the man.

Both the woman and the man were treated for minor injuries.

A 30-year-old Essendon man has been charged with sexual assault, threaten to commit a sexual assault, intent to cause injury, recklessly cause injury, cruelty to animal and other charges.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
