A man will face court today following an alleged assault with a machete in the state’s central west this week.
Officers attached to Chifley Police District were called to Hartley Valley Road, Doctors Gap, east of Lithgow, about 6.30pm yesterday (Thursday 7 May 2026), with reports of an assault.
Police arrived and were told a man had threatened a woman – aged in her 70s – with a machete, causing a minor cut to her ear, before two other people intervened to assist her and restrain the man.
Officers conducted a search of a nearby property where they allegedly located and seized 10 large cannabis plants from the backyard, and approximately 80 grams of dry cannabis leaf from a shed.
Police arrested a 41-year-old man and took him to Lithgow Police Station, where he was charged with eight offences:
- Cultivate prohibited plant less than or equal to small quantity,
- Possess prohibited drug,
- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence,
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm,
- Enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse,
- Common assault,
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), and
- Custody of knife in public place.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 4 today (Friday 8 May 2026).
