A man has been charged after allegedly brandishing a knife at a shopping centre in Parramatta.
About 9.30am yesterday (Saturday 17 August 2024) a man entered a shopping centre on Church Street, Parramatta, and allegedly stole a number of items from a store.
The man entered another store and allegedly armed himself with a knife, before brandishing it behind a customer’s head.
The customer – a 36-year-old man – confronted the man who left the scene, leaving the knife.
Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command were called and attended a short time later.
Police attempted to arrest the 24-year-old man, when he allegedly attempted to assault the officers.
The officers then searched the man and seized 69 gift cards and a pair of earrings, which had allegedly been stolen.
The man was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with shoplifting, goods in custody, use knife in public place – cause person to fear for safety, and intimidate police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 18 August 2024).
