Police charge man after Brookfield shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man and seized drugs, ammunition and weapons following a shooting in Brookfield late last year.

A 46-year-old man was arrested at his Melton South property today and interviewed by police.

He has been charged with a range of offences, including intentionally cause serious injury (gross violence), reckless conduct endanger life, use firearm contravention of Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO), possess ammunition in contravention of FPO and cultivate narcotic plant (cannabis).

He will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

The arrest follows an incident where a man was shot in the ankle on Clarkes Road in Brookfield just after midnight on 30 December, 2020.

Police will allege that a now 28-year-old Melton West man was travelling alone when his vehicle was rammed, before a driver approached the victim’s vehicle and discharged a shot into his ankle.

The victim was conveyed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
