Police charge man after burglary during bushfires at Bairnsdale

Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 30-year-old man following an alleged burglary that occurred during the bushfires in Bairnsdale last month.

It is alleged a man broke into a house on Riverine Street after the residents had been evacuated due to the bushfires about 9.30pm on Wednesday 8 January.

The offender attempted to steal a vehicle from the house when he was disturbed by the victim and fled the scene empty-handed.

A Frankston man was arrested this morning by detectives and charged with burglary, attempted theft of motor vehicle and assault.

He has been bailed to appear at the Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court on 18 March.
