Police charge man after carjacking and armed robbery

Warrnambool Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a man following an alleged carjacking and armed robbery in Victoria’s south-west yesterday afternoon.

The 21-year-old Portland man was arrested in Mortlake and charged with five offences including aggravated carjacking, armed robbery and criminal damage to property.

He is expected to appear before Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court this morning.

It’s alleged a 52-year-old Jancourt East woman’s car was stolen outside a Princes Highway shopping centre just after 3pm.

Police will also allege a Curdie Street newsagency in Cobden was robbed at knifepoint about 3.20pm.
