The rideshare car – which was driven by a 27-year-old man and had a 24-year-old female passenger – then crashed into a stationary police vehicle parked nearby.

The Mazda then allegedly struck a 58-year-old woman who was walking along Market Street.

The woman sustained a cut to her head and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command arrested the driver – a 36-year-old man – at the scene.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for mandatory testing under police guard, where he remains.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries into the incident have commenced.

The man was charged with assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), common assault, and destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 7 today (Friday 9 October 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 14 October 2026.
