A man has been charged with aggravated carjacking, evading police and other stealing and traffic offences after an incident in Moonah last night.
About 6.25pm, a man returned to his vehicle when he was reportedly threatened by a man with what is believed to be a knife.
The man, an 18-year-old from Devonport, allegedly stole the silver Toyota Camry and left the scene heading towards Creek Road, Moonah.
Police responded, deploying road spikes to intercept the vehicle before it came to a stop on Pierce Street, Moonah, and the driver fled the scene.
Police searched the area and successfully located the alleged offender, taking him into custody about 7.45pm.
No physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
After further investigation, it was determined that the 18-year-old man was reportedly involved in an earlier incident in Moonah, where it is alleged he attempted to gain entry to two vehicles parked outside a business in Charles Street, Moonah, shortly after 3.00pm.
He has been charged with aggravated carjacking, stealing, evading police, dangerous driving, drive whilst disqualified and unlawfully tamper with a motor vehicle.
He will appear in Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.
