Police charge man after Cheltenham attempted car-jackings and aggravated burglary

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following three alleged car-jacking incidents and an aggravated burglary in Cheltenham last night.

It is alleged a man approached a woman and stood in front of her car on Eversham Road around 7.30pm.

The man threatened the woman before attempting to open her door which was locked, and he fled the area.

It is alleged the man then forced entry to a property on Nepean Highway, assaulting the male tenant and attempted to steal his car keys about 7.40pm.

He followed on from that incident by following another tenant into their driveway in the same group of units and as he parked his car.

The male offender allegedly approached the victim with what appeared to be a weapon and stole the victim’s car keys.

The male fled the area and was arrested a short distance away.

The 49-year-old Bentleigh man has been charged with attempted car-jacking and aggravated burglary.

He has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 August.
