Police charge man after crash in Austins Ferry on 23 December

Police have charged a man with several offences following a crash in Austins Ferry around 6.55pm on 23 December.

When police arrived at the crash on Hilton Road, the driver of the offending vehicle had fled the scene.

Police located the driver a short time later in a residence close by the scene. He was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and a mandatory blood test.

Test results returned a blood alcohol content of .302, over 6 times the legal limit.

The 42-year-old man from Austins Ferry has been charged with multiple offences including drive whilst disqualified, fail to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash, reckless driving and exceed prescribed alcohol limit.

He has been bailed to appear before the Court on 9 February.

The vehicle has been seized by police.
