Police charge man after Darley assault

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged a 32-year-old Darley man as part of an investigation into an alleged serious sexual and physical assault in Darley last week.

It is alleged the man met the victim, a 39-year-old female Vietnamese national, via a dating app several weeks ago and began a relationship with her before allegedly imprisoning and assaulting her over four days from 25 March to 28 March.

The woman was conveyed to hospital via ambulance with serious head and body injuries.

The man was arrested by Sexual Crimes Squad detectives at his address in Darley yesterday.

He has been charged with false imprisonment, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, theft and three counts of rape.

He faced Melbourne Magistrate’s Court last night and has been remanded to appear again on 5 April.
