A man will face court today after being linked to an alleged robbery and serious assault of a woman in her Kingsford unit back in 2004.
On Monday 29 November 2004, a then 27-year-old woman answered a knock on the door at her unit on Anzac Parade.
As she opened the door, two men, who were both armed with knives and had their faces covered, pushed their way inside. One of the men allegedly pinned the woman down and assaulted her while the second man ransacked the home.
Both men ran from the unit with an amount of property prior to the arrival of police.
Officers from Eastern Beaches attended the unit and the woman was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment to a fractured nose and eye socket.
Crime scene officers commenced an investigation inside the unit and a number of items were seized.
Despite inquiries by Eastern Beaches detectives, no arrests were made and the investigation was suspended.
In January 2019, a 33-year-old man was arrested and charged for an unrelated matter. A forensic procedure was performed while he was in police custody.
As a result of that procedure, Eastern Beaches detectives re-commenced inquiries into the alleged robbery.
About 6.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 21 August 2019), the 33-year-old man was arrested at Day Street Police Station.
He was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence being armed robbery and inflict grievous bodily harm, as well as take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today (Thursday 22 August 2019).
Inquiries into a co-offender continue.
