Police Charge Man After DV Incident At Maitland

A man has been charged following a domestic violence incident at a home near Maitland yesterday.

About 6.10am (Wednesday 26 August 2026), emergency services were called to Beckett Street, Gillieston Heights.

A 44-year-old man was located at the scene and taken to hospital for the treatment of a stab wound.

A 41-year-old woman was located at a Woodberry home and taken to a hospital for further assessment of facial and abdominal injuries.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, police attended the John Hunter Hospital yesterday where they spoke with the 44-year-old man.

He was charged with seven offences,

  • Knowingly contravene prohibition/etc in AVO (Domestic)
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV) (three counts)
  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), and
  • Take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm (DV).

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Thursday 27 August 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on (Wednesday 21 October 2026).

Police will allege in court that the man held the woman against her will and assaulted her over several hours before self-inflicting a stab wound.
