Police charge man after failure to move on at Wollongong

A man has been charged following an incident with sheriffs at a Wollongong court today.

About 10am (Tuesday 23 January 2024), officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded to Wollongong Court House, on the corner of Market and Church Street, to assist court sheriffs.

A group of up to 30 people were escorted from the courtroom by court sheriffs; however, one man allegedly refused to leave.

Police arrested the 49-year-old man and he was taken to Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with fail to leave court premises as required by security officer, not leave court at request of court security, fail to comply with reasonable direction of security officer and wilfully delay etc security officer in exercise of functions.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 13 February 2024.
