Police charge man after fatal assault in Erskineville

A man has been charged following a fatal assault in Sydney’s Inner West yesterday.

About 8.50pm (Sunday 13 September 2020), emergency services were called to the front of a unit block on Swanson Street, Erskineville, after reports two men were involved in a physical altercation.

A 57-year-old man was found suffering head and facial injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died a short time later.

The second man fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command, with assistance from Inner West Police Area Command, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 28-year-old man was arrested at a nearby unit block on Swanson Street about 12.45am today (Monday 14 September 2020).

He was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with murder.

The Erskineville man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Monday 14 September 2020).
