Police charge man after fatal house fire in Elderslie

A man will appear in court today after an investigation into a fatal house fire in Sydney’s south-west in June.

Emergency services were called to Crank Place, Elderslie, about 11.40pm on Saturday 1 June 2019, following reports of a home invasion and a house fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended and after the blaze was extinguished, located the body of a 22-year-old man inside the home.

Camden Detectives, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and the Financial Crime Squad’s Arson Unit, established Strike Force Forrest to investigate the fire and death of the man.

Following inquiries, about 5pm yesterday (Thursday 29 August 2019), a 23-year-old man attended Narellan Police Station where he was arrested and charged with destroy/damage property with intent to endanger life, destroy property in company use fire, aggravated break and enter – commit serious indictable offence in company, destroy/damage property in company and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

The 23-year-old was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 30 August 2019).
