Police charge man after fatal stabbing in Dandenong

Detectives from the Homicide Squad have charged a man following a fatal stabbing in Dandenong this morning.

A 38-year-old Dandenong man has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates Court tonight.

The charges follow an incident where two male victims were located with injuries at a Pickett Street residence about 12.45am this morning.

A 48-year-old Dandenong man was treated at the scene by emergency services but was unable to be revived.

The second victim, a 37-year-old Dandenong man, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injures.

All parties involved in the incident were known to each other.

A woman was also arrested at the same address today, however this was unrelated to the stabbing.

Police would like to reassure the Dandenong community that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The owners of the Pickett Street property have secured the premises and it has been approved for demolition in the near future.

Victoria Police have engaged with the Greater Dandenong Council and local service providers to provide assistance to those experiencing homelessness who may have been staying at the Pickett Street address.

Police have also spoken with local residents and will provide daily patrols to the area and visits to the premises to ensure community safety.
