A man has faced court charged with alleged firearms offences after police seized a weapon in the state’s Far West on the weekend.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District spoke to a man near a town hall on Darling Street, Wentworth, about 9.30pm on Saturday 8 August 2026, following a concern for welfare.
Following inquiries, police allegedly seized a .22-calibre bolt-action firearm with a shortened barrel and a single round of ammunition from a bag in the man’s possession, as well as an amount of cannabis.
The 44-year-old man was assessed onsite by NSW Ambulance paramedics as a precaution before being taken to Dareton Police Station, where he was charged with,
· Possess unauthorised firearm
· Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
· Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
· Shorten firearm (not pistol) unless authorised by permit
· Use unauthorised firearm
· Possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 4 on Sunday 9 August 2026, where he was formally refused bail to reappear before Broken Hill Local Court today (Tuesday 11 August 2026).
