A man will face court today charged with several offences following a house fire in the state’s Riverina region on the weekend.
About 10pm on Sunday 30 August 2026, emergency services were called to a fire at a home in Adams Street, Cootamundra.
Fire and Rescue NSW responded and extinguished the fire, which caused extensive damage.
No one was injured.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District responded and commenced inquiries.
About 11.15am on Sunday (31 Augst 2026) a 24-year-old man – known to the occupants of the home – was arrested at Cootamundra Police Station.
The man was charged with ten offences;
- Damage property by fire/exp greater than $15000
- Destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000
- Destroy or damage property greater than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000
- Cause or set fire to the property of another
- Armed within intent to commit indictable offence
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm
- Set on, urge dog to attack, bite etc
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle
- Unlawfully possess number plates
- Custody of knife in public place
He was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 5 yesterday ( Tuesday 1 September 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local court today ( Wednesday 2 September 2026)
