Police charge man after leaving quarantine hotel

WA Police arrested and charged a 34-year-old man, after he breached self-quarantine requirements.

He was required under the Emergency Management Act to be quarantined for 14 days and he was provided a room at a Perth Hotel for this purpose.

The Spearwood man flew into Western Australia from Qatar arriving on 30 March 2020.

The man had not been assessed as COVID positive. He was bound by a Direction as a result of his international travel.

It is alleged the man breached the self-quarantine Direction by leaving the hotel around 2.45am this morning, Friday 10 April.

It will be further alleged he walked a distance away from the hotel and caught a taxi to Fremantle, where he was located by police around 10.40am.

The 34-year-old man was taken into custody and has been charged with Failure to comply with a direction; Section 86 1A EMA

He will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday 11 April 2020.
