Police charge man after Melbourne ramming of police vehicles

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an incident where two police vehicles were allegedly rammed in Melbourne’s CBD in the early hours of this morning.

A 23-year-old Heyfield man has been charged with a number of offences, including intentional exposure of police officers to risk by driving, assaulting a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle.

Police were called to reports of torches being shone into cars on Arthur Street about 4.15am on Thursday, 25 August.

On arrival, officers saw two men in an allegedly stolen black Nissan ute which then rammed into two police vehicles.

It is alleged one of the males produced a weapon before they were both arrested at the scene.

The 23-year-old Heyfield man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening.

A 30-year-old Sunbury man is in hospital under police guard with minor injuries and will be interviewed at a later date.
