Police Charge Man After Multiple Fires At St George

A man has been charged with numerous offences after several suspicious fires in Sydney’s south.

About 1am today (Friday 16 August 2024), emergency services were called to Vista Street, Sans Souci, following reports of a boat fire.

NSW Fire and Rescue crews attended and found a boat, that was parked on a trailer, alight.

The blaze was extinguished prior to the arrival of officers attached to St George Police Area Command.

The boat sustained some damage.

A short time later, police patrolling on Ramsgate Road, Ramsgate, observed a man pouring petrol over a vehicle.

Officers en route to Ramsgate Road observed a Toyota Kluger well alight in a carpark on The Promenade, Sans Souci.

Following inquiries, a 35-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, damage property by fire (three counts), armed with intent to commit indictable offence, destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 17 August 2024.
